Dundalk FC striker Patrick Hoban visited the Maria Goretti Foundation in Lordship yesterday to hand over a €600 cheque which he helped raise for the children’s respite centre.
The proceeds came from an auction he held of his jersey which he wore while scoring four goals in Dundalk’s 6-1 win over Bohemian FC in the EA Sports Cup semi-final earlier this season.
The shirt was bought by the local supporters’ group ‘The Tie Wrap Gang’ who have since donated it to the family of Joshua Hill, a young Carlingford boy who drowned in tragic circumstances earlier this year.
Joshua was a user of the facilities at the Maria Goretti Foundation. The Hill family are holding a fundraiser in Ballymascanlon House Hotel tonight where the jersey, now framed, will be auctioned to raise further funds for the Maria Goretti Foundation.
The Tie Wrap Gang also auctioned off Hoban’s match ball from the same game, raising €500 in the process which they donated to the Birches Alzheimer Centre in Dundalk prior to last Sunday’s FAI Cup final.
