Family to appeal six year sentence for killing of Martin Mulligan

The daughters of slain taxi driver Martin Mulligan are set to appeal his killer’s sentence.

Last week Joseph Hillen (24) of of Glendasha Road, Forkhill, Co Armagh was jailed for six years at the Central Criminal Court after a jury last year found him not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter for the killing of Mr Mulligan (53) at Carnmore, Balriggan, Dundalk, Co Louth on September 28th, 2015.

Speaking this week, daughters Shauna (28) and Sharon (31) said that their barrister was “definitely” going to the Director of Public Prosecutions to seek a longer sentence.

“We are very disappointed with the outcome of the court case and of the sentence,” Sharon told journalist Louise Walsh.

“Six years is crazy.”
